LG Dishwasher Installation

Built-in dishwashers need to be installed as opposed to portable dishwashers which are free-standing and hook up directly to your kitchen faucet. Built-in dishwashers are plumbed in and are stationary. LG offers a variety of dishwashers in both built-in and portable models. Installation of the built-in models is relatively uniform from model to model with the water and electrical hookups.
  1. Location

    • LG built-in dishwashers are generally placed near the kitchen sink to accommodate the need for water and drainage. Professionals recommend installing the dishwasher no more than 10 feet from the sink where your main water supply hookup is located. A dishwasher positioned in the corner requires a minimum of 2 inches clearance between the washer and the adjacent wall.

    Plumbing Preparation

    • To provide adequate drainage it is necessary to drill a 2 1/2 inch hole in the cabinet on the side nearest the back wall, but about 3 inches from the wall. If the cabinet under the sink has a floor, a hole will also need to be drilled through this to connect the drain and water under the sink. The LG dishwasher is connected to the hot water supply with a temperature range of 120 degrees F to 149 degrees F to provide the best results. It is best not to exceed 149 degrees F. To avoid leaks, use sealing tape around the hoses and pipe threads.

    Electrical Preparation

    • The LG dishwasher requires the standard household 120V 60Hz AC outlet and connection to a single use grounded circuit. The three-wire cord must be in an available location within 4 feet of the side and contiguous to the dishwasher. Do not use this outlet for any other items or appliances. Make sure that the electrical cord is properly grounded. Turn off the outlet breaker to the dishwasher during installation as a safety precaution.

    Installation

    • Prior to sliding the LG dishwasher into the opening, remove all packing materials along with the lower toe kick cover. Attach a 90 degree elbow pipe to the inlet valve and use sealing tape to circumvent leaks. Carefully slide the dishwasher in place, ensuring that there are no kinks in any of the hoses and that the dishwasher is not resting on the electrical cord. Level the dishwasher and secure it to the countertop with brackets. Prior to connecting to the water supply, make sure the water is turned off. Then attach the hose to the elbow pipe of the inlet valve and tighten the compression nut.

    Final Steps

    • The electrical cord needs to be attached to the junction box on the LG dishwasher. The wires are color coordinated to make connection easy: white to white, green to green and black to black. Twist wire connectors onto the wire tightly and wrap with electrical tape. Replace the junction box cover; turn on the electrical power and water supply. Turn on the dishwasher on a regular cycle to check for proper operation and any leaks. The toe kick panel can be replaced at this time.
