Troubleshooting an Amana SofSound Dishwasher

SofSound is a feature available on certain models of Amana dishwashers. It is a design style that keeps the dishwasher from making too much noise while it runs. SofSound has no effect on the actual function of the dishwasher components. Troubleshooting an Amana that is not working properly is the same whether it has SofSound or not. Walking through a checklist of common issues can help you track down problems that may be affecting how your dishwasher runs.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the dishwasher from the wall outlet and reinsert it if the machine will not run. Press the plug into the socket to ensure it sits snug. Check the breaker box to see if the circuit is blown. Open the door and look for a breaker that is out of line with the others. If you find the circuit is off, press it to the "On" position to get the power working again.

    • 2

Press down on the overfill float switch at the bottom of the dishwasher if the machine does not fill with water. Turn the water on at the sink to make sure water is flowing freely to the kitchen.

    • 3

Fill a bowl with 2 cups of white vinegar. Place it inside of the empty dishwater on the bottom rack and run it through a normal cycle if you notice an odor. This will clean the inside of the machine.

    • 4

Pull the bottom rack out of the unit and look for an obstacle on the floor of the machine. Something jammed at the bottom can cause rattling or a grinding noise. Take out the obstruction and turn the machine back on to see if the noise disappears. If not, the dishwasher may require service.

Write down any error codes that appear on the front panel if your machine has digital controls. Look up the code in the documentation from Amana to determine the problem.
