Cleaning a GE Smart Dispense Machine

The GE Smart Dispense machine on your GE dishwasher has a 45-ounce capacity, holding the contents of one standard-sized bottle of dishwasher detergent. When you change detergent brands, or at least every few months, you need to wash out the holding container to flush any contaminants or phosphates built up in the reservoir. You cannot disassemble the reservoir, so you need to execute the cleaning process properly to flush the system out.

Instructions

    • 1

Watch for the low detergent light to illuminate on the front panel of your dishwasher, indicating that the dishwasher detergent supply is depleting.

    • 2

Use the manual-dispensing detergent cup on the inside of the dishwasher door for the next 10 wash cycles.

    • 3

Add between 8 and 10 ounces of water to the Smart Dispense container. The water will clear out the residue in the dispenser. Use the manual-dispensing detergent cup for the next 10 cycles.

    • 4

Refill the Smart Dispense container with the detergent of your choice after running the final 10 wash cycles.
