How to Remove the Door From a Bosch SHV66A

The Bosh model SHV66A stainless steel dishwasher is a solidly engineered machine designed to last for years. However, being constantly immersed in hot water and detergent, the lower door seal tends to deteriorate after extended use. If your dishwasher starts leaking and you have basic DIY skills, you can avoid the expense of a service call by removing the door and replacing the seal yourself.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Putty knife
  • Torx head screwdriver
  • Large pair of pliers
  • Large flat head screwdriver

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the dishwasher breaker switch on your main household electrical panel and flip the switch to the “off” position.

    • 2

Remove the two screws that secure the tabs on the top front of the machine to the underside of the counter top with a Phillips head screwdriver. Pull the dishwasher out from between the two side cabinets and swivel the front sideways to gain access to the back of the machine; do not disconnect the flexible water supply and waste water hoses.

    • 3

Insert the blade of a putty knife into the gap between the top of the dishwasher and the back panel, about 3 inches in from each corner. Press the putty knife in to release the two spring catches that secure the top panel to the machine. Once both catches are free, lift the panel off and stand it against the wall.

    • 4

Open the dishwasher door. Remove the two screws on each side of the door that hold the side panels to the front of the machine with a Torx head screwdriver. Grasp the top edges of the side panels. Exert sudden outward force to release their spring catches. Stand the side panels against the wall and slide the baskets out of the machine.

    • 5

Stand to the right of the dishwasher and locate the sturdy white plastic molding that is slotted over a hook on the lower door hinge plate; the plastic molding is attached to a nylon rope leading down at an angle to a spring-loaded pulley system concealed behind a small plastic cover.

    • 6

Close the door and pull the plastic cover off of the side of the pulley system by hand to access the plastic molding against the top of the spring-loaded white plastic pulley. Grasp the base of the plastic molding from the back with a large pair of pliers. Pull the molding forward then upward to lift it off of the hook on the end of the door hinge plate.

    • 7

Move to the left of the dishwasher. Repeat the procedure carried out in Steps 5 and 6 to unhook the left hinge from the pulley system.

    • 8

Lower the door halfway then pull the kick plate off of the bottom of the machine; hold the heavy door steady while doing so. Once you’ve removed the kick plate, lower the door all of the way.

    • 9

Remove the three screws on either side that secure the front panel to the inner door with the Torx head screwdriver. Lift the door to the closed position and lock it in place. Slide the front panel off of the inner door and lower the door once again.

    • 10

Insert the blade of a large flat head screwdriver under the head of the right-hand hinge pin that holds the hinge plate in place. Use the side of the dishwasher as a fulcrum and lever the hinge pin outward. Once the hinge pin is detached from the hinge plate, slide the right side of the door forward about 1/2-inch off of the hinge pin.

    • 11

Repeat the procedure carried out in the previous step to release the left hinge plate from the hinge pin.

    • 12

Pivot the door up then pull the lower door seal out of its slot on the bottom of the door opening. Lower the door, slide it all the way off of the hinge pins and set it in front of the dishwasher.
