Troubleshooting a Loud Motor in a Kenmore Elite Dishwasher

Kenmore is a brand name that is synonymous with home appliances and other related products. Kenmore Elite is a series of washers, dryers and dishwashers that are designed for high-performance residential use. The Kenmore Elite dishwasher is built with two filters to help minimize the noise of the motor as it works. If the dishwasher is noisier than usual, you can usually clean and adjust the filters, or try some other troubleshooting tips before calling in a Sears technician.

Instructions

Place a level across the front panel, and then open the door and hold it on the top of the tub to determine if it is level. Adjust the leg levelers if needed by turning the feet clockwise to raise the dishwasher horizontally and counterclockwise to lower it. Turn the center screw clockwise to raise the dishwasher vertically, and counterclockwise to lower it.

Stop the machine and rearrange the dishes inside if it’s making a lot of noise during operation. Move the dishes so they are all inside the racks and don’t interfere with the washing arms.

    • 3

Turn the upper filter assembly counterclockwise a quarter-turn, and then lift the upper filter out. Pull the lower filter forward from the circular opening and lift it up a little to remove it. Run the filters under clean water until most of the debris is removed. Brush them with a soft-bristled brush if they don’t come clean with water.

Re-install the filters correctly after cleaning, so they muffle the noise properly. Set the lower filter in the bottom of the dishwasher, under the locating tabs. Ensure that the round opening of the upper filter assembly is lined up with the round opening at the bottom. Set the upper filter assembly in the round opening in the bottom filter. Rotate it clockwise until it falls in place, and continue turning until it locks.
