How to Install Tine Tips on a Dishwasher Rack

Since dishwasher racks are made of wire and covered with a coating, any time the tines or any part of the rack is chipped, cracked or damaged, it can expose the wire, leading to rusting. Dishwasher manufacturers address this issue by offering tine repair kits. These kits not only include the replacement tines but also touchup paint to repair any other damaged areas.

Instructions

    • 1

Slide the dishwasher rack out of the dishwasher and place it on top of a towel on a hard surface such as a countertop.

    • 2

Rub a steel wool pad across the tips to remove any rust.

    • 3

Slip the tine tips onto each tine. If the tine tip does not fit snugly enough, apply a silicone glue formulated for applying the tips to the top of each before pushing the tip onto the tine.

    • 4

Paint over any rusted or chipped areas with the touchup paint.

    • 5

Allow any paint or glue to dry for 24 hours, or until it is dry to the touch.
