A common cause of dishwasher leaks is the use of too much dishwasher detergent or other detergent types. Never use anything other than automatic dishwasher detergent and follow product instructions for the correct amount, as too much foam can cause a water leak. Set the dishwasher for a “Rinse Only” cycle to dissolve the extra soap and drain the water from the tub.
Along with excess or the wrong kind of detergent, spilled rinse aid can foam up and create leaks. Wipe up any spills of rinse aid detergent when they occur and be sure the rinse aid detergent latch is firmly closed.
Stopping the Magic Chef dishwasher suddenly during the wash cycle can cause water to leak out of the unit. Correctly stop the dishwasher to add an item by opening the door just enough to unlatch the door but not open the door. Wait for the lights on the control panel to flash and water to stop circulating, then open the door the rest of the way and add the dish. Close the door until the door latches in place, which will automatically restart the cycle.
The Magic Chef dishwasher may leak if it is not level. Determining if the dishwasher is level can be difficult if the unit is installed under and next to kitchen counters. Slide the dishwasher out from the counters if possible and set a level on the top of the appliance. Adjust the feet on the dishwasher until the bubble in the level is centered and slide the dishwasher back into place. If moving the dishwasher is not possible, contact a professional for assistance.
Check the rubber gasket around the door for holes or tears. Grit buildup on the rubber seal can also cause a leak. Clean or replace the gasket accordingly.
