How to Replace the Gasket in a Kenmore Elite Dishwasher

Kenmore appliances are manufactured by companies such as Frigidaire and Whirlpool, and distributed by Sears, the company that owns the Kenmore brand. In addition to Kenmore home appliances, Sears also distributes Kenmore Pro, which is a professional line of cooking appliances, and Kenmore Elite, which are high-end residential appliances. Kenmore Elite dishwashers are intended to last for many years; however, one of the components almost guaranteed to require eventual replacement is the door gasket, which wraps around the side and top of the wash tub. The gasket is charged with preventing water from leaking from the dishwasher during operation. Constructed of rubber, the gasket will eventually deteriorate or crack, at which point you must remove it from the dishwasher and install a new one.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the dishwasher door and pull the end of the gasket away from the gasket channel. If necessary, us a flat-head screwdriver to gently pry the gasket out of the channel.

    • 2

Grasp the gasket and pull firmly to remove it from the door. Discard the old gasket.

    • 3

Place the new gasket in a bucket full of warm water. Allow the gasket to remain in the water for several minutes to soften the rubber, which makes it more pliable.

    • 4

Remove the gasket from the water, and then locate the center of the gasket, which is marked with a red dot.

    • 5

Align the center of the gasket with the door latch at the top of the dishwasher. Push the gasket firmly into the gasket channel.

    • 6

Push the entire gasket into the gasket channel, until it is fully inserted.

    • 7

Close and latch the dishwasher door. Avoid opening the door for several hours to allow the gasket to mold to the shape of the gasket channel, which ensures a watertight seal.
