Removing the Top Sprayer on a Maytag

Poor water circulation during the wash cycle of your dishwasher might require cleaning the nozzles on the spray arm. Most lower spray arms either unscrew or simply unsnap from the water pump hub. Removing the top sprayer on a Maytag dishwasher, however, depends upon your dishwasher model. Some Maytag dishwashers use a manifold tube that runs from the bottom to the top of the dishwasher that secures the spray arm, while others use a simple screw.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the circuit breaker to your dishwasher. Open the dishwasher door and extend the upper dish rack.

    • 2

Pull the plastic end caps off the end of each track. Depending upon your model, the end cap either uses a tab on the side that you push inward to release the end cap or has a lever lock that you pull away from the track to release the end cap. Slide the upper rack out of the tracks.

    • 3

Remove the screw securing the upper spray arm to the top of the dishwasher with a Phillips screwdriver, if your spray arm uses a screw. The screw is in the center of the spray arm.

    • 4

Slide a small flat-head screwdriver between the side of the spray arm and the spray arm manifold. The manifold is the flat portion that the spray arm hooks into and receives water.

Spread the retainer tab away from the spray and repeat for the opposite side of the manifold. Grab the end of the spray arm and pull it out of the manifold.
