How to Hook Up a Water Line to a Dishwasher

Your dishwasher requires a dedicated water line, which provides the appliance with the water needed to run the wash cycle. The water is provided through a water supply line that connects the dishwasher's water inlet valve to the water supply valve, which is often located below your kitchen sink. The water supply valve is accessible from the bottom of the front of the dishwasher and is located behind the dishwasher's lower kick plate, which makes installing the water line a quick process.

Instructions

    • 1

Ensure that the dishwasher's power supply is disconnected in your home's main breaker panel.

    • 2

Remove the screws from the bottom panel on the front of the dishwasher. Remove the panel.

    • 3

Connect the water supply line to the water supply valve, which is often located below your sink. Thread the connector onto the end of the water supply valve, and then use an adjustable wrench to tighten.

    • 4

Pass the water supply line through the cabinet, and then snake it to the front-left side of the dishwasher, near the water inlet valve.

    • 5

Thread the connector on the end of the water supply line onto the water inlet valve, and then use an adjustable wrench to tighten the connection.

    • 6

Turn on the water supply valve, and inspect all connections for leaks, tightening as needed.

    • 7

Reinstall the bottom front panel of the dishwasher, and use the screws that were removed to secure it in position.

    • 8

Turn on the dishwasher breaker in your home's service panel, if ready to restore power to the dishwasher.
