No Power Indication on a Dishwasher

Dishwashers can often do many things, from altering cycles for specific types of dishes and load sizes to sanitizing items or using energy and water-saving wash features. However, if the dishwasher can’t seem to power on and there is no indication of power on the dishwasher, the problem might be a simple operational step you missed. Before deciding if you have a serious power problem, do some troubleshooting of your dishwasher.

Instructions

    • 1

Pull the dishwasher out from under the kitchen counter (if possible) and look at the power cord to ensure the cord did not become disconnected.

    • 2

Plug the power cord in firmly and do not use an extension cord or an adapter for the dishwasher power.

    • 3

Try a reset or replacement of any necessary circuit breakers or fuses if the power cord is not accessible or the power cord is fully connected.

    • 4

Verify that the dishwasher door is completely shut and latched closed. If the door is not closed, the dishwasher will not operate and may seem to have lost power. Open and close the door firmly and try to program the dishwasher once the door has latched.

    • 5

Pull the dishwasher out of its space, if possible, and examine the machine's wiring to the household power. If the wires seem to be damaged or burnt, contact an electrician for assistance.

    • 6

Contact an authorized service technician for assistance if you have reset power to the dishwasher and either see nothing wrong with the wiring or cannot reach the wiring. Other possible problems with the dishwasher include problems with the door switch or the selector switch, which could prevent the entire dishwasher from working if the switch is burnt out or broken.
