How to Clean Screens on a Hotpoint Dishwasher HDA2220

If your dishes don’t come out clean when using a Hotpoint dishwasher HDA2220, and you’ve checked the hardware of the appliance, check the water level. Start the machine through a dishwashing cycle, wait until it’s filled for a second time and open the door, which will automatically stop the cycle. Check the level of the water inside the machine. The water should have reached the level of the heating element. If it hasn’t, your intake valve screen is most likely the problem. Intake valve screens on the Hotpoint HDA2220 can become clogged with dirt and other particles, and this can interfere with the incoming water flow.

Instructions

    • 1

Shut off the power to the dishwasher at your main electrical panel. Shut off the dishwasher’s water supply, which connects with your home’s hot water supply, most likely under a nearby sink.

    • 2

Remove the lower front panels under the dishwasher's door. Release the metal water supply tube by using a wrench to remove the nut from the compression fitting. Disengage the wire cover and pull the electrical wires away. Remove the intake valve from the dishwasher frame by unscrewing the nuts that keep it in place.

    • 3

Disconnect the rubber tubing from the intake valve by using needle-nose pliers to release the spring clamps that join the tubing to the valve.

    • 4

Disengage the compression fitting from the intake valve by removing the screws that hold it in place. Use needle-nose pliers to remove the screen from the valve. Rinse the screen thoroughly to clean it of dirt and other particles.

    • 5

Turn on the water supply to the water supply tube, place the end of the tube into a pan or pot and flush out any debris and residue from the tube.

    • 6

Turn off the water supply and reassemble the appliance in reverse order.

    • 7

Run a set of dishes in a dishwashing cycle. If they don't come out clean, it's time for professional help.
