How to Remove an Under-Counter Dishwasher

Under-counter dishwashers disconnect for removal in less than an hour if you need to repair your appliance or replace it with a new model. The three main connection points involve a water supply hose, a drain hose and the electrical cord. Removing the mounting hardware in the cabinet takes only a few minutes. As with any electrical appliance, follow all safety precautions when working on the dishwasher.

Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect the dishwasher's power cord from the electrical socket, which is usually in the cabinet on the side of the appliance opposite the sink.

    • 2

Open the cabinet beneath the sink to locate and shut off the water valve in the hose connected to the dishwasher. Turn the valve knob to the right until tight.

    • 3

Squeeze the clamp on the hose where it connects to the water valve, using pliers. Pull off the hose and wipe away the small amount of water that normally drips, using a towel.

    • 4

Unscrew the drain hose adjacent to the disconnected water hose, using pliers or an adjustable wrench. Wipe away any water that may spill from the hose.

    • 5

Open the door of the appliance to locate the mounting screws on the upper lip where the appliance is bolted into the underside of the kitchen counter. Remove these screws and any screws holding the left and right sides of the appliance to the cabinet sides. Not all dishwashers use side screws, so this may not be necessary with your model.

    • 6

Pull the appliance forward and out of the space below the countertop, guiding the hoses and power cord through the holes in the cabinet sides. You can now remove the dishwasher.
