KitchenAid KUDM24SEWH2 Is Leaking

The KitchenAid KUDM24SEWH2 is an older-model under-the-counter dishwasher no longer made by the KitchenAid Corporation. The model includes a four-way sweeping spray arm and cycle options such as high temperature wash, delay start, energy-saving dry and light china. As this model is an older version, problems are more likely than with some newer dishwashers, including leaking, which should always be investigated.
  1. Water Hose Connection

    • Check the water hose connected to the KitchenAid dishwasher and tighten the hose if water seems to be leaking from the connection point or from the water valve. Straighten out the water hose to help improve water flow and clean out the water hose if water seems to be obstructed, causing the leak.

    Oversudsing

    • A common problem with older dishwashers is oversudsing, which is too much soap and water in the tub that cannot drain out and starts to leak instead. Follow product directions and do not overfill the dishwasher detergent dispenser. Don’t use other types of soap or detergent in the dishwasher. Close the dishwasher door and select “Start” two times in a row to start a manual drain cycle that will help remove the water and soap.

    Kitchen Plumbing

    • When the kitchen sink is not draining well, the dishwasher is likely not draining well either, which can allow water to leak out of the tub. If there is an air gap on the top of the sink, remove the cover and clear out the hoses, then replace the cover. Run the garbage disposal in the sink while running water to help clear the kitchen drain, which is connected to the dishwasher drain.

    Dishwasher Door

    • Sometimes older dishwashers such as the KitchenAid develop cracks or splitting on the door gasket, which allows water to leak out. Check the gasket and contact KitchenAid if the gasket seems to be broken or hardened for a replacement or service. There is a set of screws along the lower edge of the door that may come loose over time. Tighten the screws to help prevent water from leaking out of the door.

    Spray Arm

    • Older KitchenAid dishwashers can develop a split in the lower spray arm, which sends water toward the lower side of the door and past the splash guard. Look at the bottom spray arm for splits or damage, and contact KitchenAid for assistance if necessary. In addition, make sure the lower spray arm can rotate fully during operation and is not blocked by dishes.
