How to Replace a Heating Coil on a Bosch Dishwasher

Bosch dishwashers use a looped heating element to maintain water temperature and to dry dishes during the powered dry cycle. This element, like electric stove elements, eventually may crack, wear out and stop working. The Bosch still will operate, but it may not clean dishes as effectively and the powered dry cycle will not work. Removing and replacing the element takes less than an hour. Replacement elements are available from Bosch or at appliance parts stores.

Instructions

    • 1

Switch off the circuit breaker that controls electricity to the Bosch.

    • 2

Take out the screws on the left and right edges of the bottom front panel on the Bosch. Pull down on the panel to pull it off the appliance.

    • 3

Pull off the two metal clips on the end of the wires that connect to the heating element terminals on the front right side at the bottom. Pull on the clips, not the wires.

    • 4

Unscrew and remove the nut holding each element terminal to the underside of the Bosch. Slide off the nut and the washer above it.

    • 5

Open the Bosch door to slide out the lower rack.

    • 6

Pull out the old element and take it with you to a parts store for a replacement.

    • 7

Insert the terminals on the end of the new element through the two holes in the interior bottom of the Bosch and lower the seal on each element terminal over the holes.

    • 8

Slide on the washer and screw on the nut for each connection below the Bosch. Tighten the nuts with the wrench.

    • 9

Reattach the bottom panel with the screws.

    • 10

Turn on the electricity for the Bosch.
