How to Troubleshoot Starts and Stops on a Bosch Dishwasher

Bosch dishwashers are water-saving, energy-efficient kitchen appliances. Designed by German engineers, Bosch appliances have a proud reputation for durability and dependability. However, any machine with moving parts is subject to wear and may present problems. If your Bosch dishwasher stops and starts during the washing cycle, try these troubleshooting tips.

Check to verify that the dishwasher is plugged in firmly. The plug may have vibrated loose and is working only intermittently.

    • 2

Investigate the water supply to make sure the main water valve is open. The water valve is typically located with the pipework found underneath the kitchen sink. If the valve is working properly, the dishwasher inlet valve may be causing the problem. Mineral deposits may have built up and be clogging the valve and preventing the machine from filling with water.

    • 3

Determine if the door is closed and latched correctly. An obstruction or a bent or broken latch may be preventing the door from closing snugly. If the door is not properly latched, your Bosch dishwasher will not fill or operate properly.

    • 4

Firmly depress the “Power Scrub” and “Regular Wash” buttons down at the same time. While holding these buttons down, press the power, or "Start,” button. A light on the control panel will show the problem. If the “Wash” light comes on, it indicates a heating problem. If the “Rinse/Dry" light is showing, it shows a filling fault. If the “Clean” light is illuminated, the temperature sensor (NTC) is at fault.

Inspect the control panel. If it is not functioning, it may need to be replaced by a service technician.

    • 6

Inspect the drain line from the dishwasher to the plumbing connection under the light of a bright flashlight. All Bosch dishwashers have a clear drain line that allows you to see if the line is plugged. If the machine cannot drain, it will stop and start in repeated attempts to complete the wash cycle.

Determine whether the trays are sliding in completely and smoothly. A dropped piece of silverware or other small item may prevent the tray from sliding, and the door may not close if the tray is not properly inserted.
