How to Replace the Gasket Around the Sump of a Frigidaire Dishwasher

There are two main gaskets on a Frigidaire dishwasher: the door gasket and sump gasket. Both gaskets are long, black rubber pieces that border the door or sump assembly to help prevent leaks while your dishwasher is running. If you notice water leaking directly from the bottom of the dishwasher, you need to inspect -- and might need to replace -- the sump gasket in the bottom center of your appliance.

Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect the electrical power from your Frigidaire dishwasher by turning off the power from your kitchen circuit breaker.

    • 2

Turn the water supply valve, located below your sink, to the "Off" position.

    • 3

Open the dishwasher door and pull out the top and bottom racks all the way to fully remove them from the dishwasher.

    • 4

Turn the lower spray arm counterclockwise and lift it up to remove it from the dishwasher.

    • 5

Remove the screw from the filter screen at the bottom of the dishwasher using a screwdriver. Lift up and remove the filter screen.

    • 6

Locate the sump housing, which includes the motor and drain pump, at the bottom center of the unit. The sump gasket is the black rubber piece aligning this assembly.

    • 7

Remove the retaining nuts from the gasket using an adjustable wrench, then remove the entire gasket.

    • 8

Insert a new gasket around the sump assembly, making sure it is aligned the same way as the old gasket was.

    • 9

Reinsert the retaining nuts onto the sump gasket, then place the filter cover back over the assembly. Reinsert the screw into the filter cover.

    • 10

Place the lower spray arm back in place and turn it clockwise. Slide the bottom and top racks back into the dishwasher.

    • 11

Close the dishwasher door, then turn the power supply back on to the dishwasher from the circuit breaker.
