How to Access the Drain Pump on a Fridgidaire

Frigidaire manufactures two kinds of appliances with drain pumps, washing machines and dishwashers. Each pump is designed to expel water from the appliance at a predetermined time in the cycle. The procedure for accessing the pump varies with the type of appliance. Frigidaire washers have a drain pump near the back of the appliance adjacent to the drain pipe. Dishwashers work with the pump located below the tub. Access the pump in less than half an hour using basic tools.

Instructions

  1. Accessing the Washing Machine Drain Pump

    • 1

Unplug the Frigidaire power cord and twist both faucet knobs behind the appliance on the wall to the right until tight.

    • 2

Pull the Frigidaire forward far enough to reach the two water hoses screwed onto the back of the appliance.

    • 3

Unscrew the hoses from the Frigidaire using pliers and lower the ends into a bucket to catch the water. Lift the drain hose out of the pipe in the wall and lower it into the bucket.

    • 4

Take out the bolts around the four edges of the back panel using the nut driver. Pull off the panel and lean to one side of the Frigidaire. The water pump is on the left-hand side connected to two hoses. A wiring harness also connects to an electrical socket on the left side of the pump.

    Accessing Dishwasher Drain Pump

    • 5

Shut off the power to the Frigidaire dishwasher at the circuit breaker.

    • 6

Take out the screws in the bottom panel on the front of the Frigidaire at the left and right edges.

    • 7

Hold the panel by the left and right edges to pull downward and forward at an angle from the bottom. Set aside the panel. The drain pump is behind the panel underneath the dishwasher tub. Two hoses and two wires are connected to the pump.
