How to Clean the Pump Filter on a Whirlpool DU1055XTSS2 Dishwasher

Your Whirlpool DU1055XTSS2 dishwasher fills and drains several times, during the course of each cycle, to remove and replace the collection of dirty water that pools in the bottom of the appliance. As the water drains, it passes through the pump filter, which removes medium to large food scraps before they can enter the plumbing. Cleaning the pump filter every few months reduces the chance of a blockage that could cause problems in your dishwasher.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the dishwasher door and pull the lower rack out of the appliance to access the heating element, pump filter and lower spray arm. Move the top rack out as far as possible.

    • 2

Remove the four screws that hold the plastic soil accumulator to the top of the sump drain. Set the screws to one side.

    • 3

Lift the soil accumulator and remove it from the appliance. If there is heavy soil on the surface, be careful not to let scraps fall into the sump drain.

    • 4

Wash the soil accumulator in a sink of warm, soapy water and a soft cloth. Scrub away any dried-on food scraps and residue before replacing it into the bottom of the dishwasher.

    • 5

Slide the soil accumulator back into place and replace the screws. The dishwasher is now ready for use.
