How to Replace a Gasket Insert on a GE Dishwasher

GE dishwashers have one of two kinds of gaskets. Stainless steel and middle- to high-end plastic tub models have a black gasket that lines the interior frame. Timer based plastic models have a white gasket that lines the door’s frame. Purchase a gasket that is specific to your GE dishwasher to ensure that the gasket will fit securely. Installing the gasket on either model does not require tools.

Instructions

  1. Interior Frame Gasket

    • 1

Pull the gasket away from the GE dishwasher’s interior frame.

    • 2

Lift up the wire that is along the bottom of the gasket and pull it away from the dishwasher. Only certain models will have the wire along the bottom, if your model does not, skip this step.

    • 3

Locate the white spot on the back of the new gasket. The white spot will be located in the center of the gasket.

    • 4

Line the white spot up to the center of the frame, just below the door latch.

    • 5

Push the gasket into place along the frame starting at one side of the spot and working toward the bottom and then start at the spot again and go the other direction. Do not stretch the gasket.

    • 6

Insert the wire into both ends of the bottom tail pieces of the gasket with the “V” shaped end facing down. Only certain models will have the wire along the bottom, if your model does not, skip this step.

    • 7

Push the gasket tails and wire under the bottom of the door. Only certain models will have the wire along the bottom, if your model does not, skip this step.

    Door Frame Gasket

    • 8

Pull the gasket away from the GE dishwasher door’s frame. You may want to slide out and remove the lower dish rack if it is in the way.

    • 9

Locate the slotted area on the center of the new gasket.

    • 10

Line the slotted area up to the center of the door’s frame, just above the door latch and then push it into place.

    • 11

Continue to push the gasket in along the frame until you reach the edges.

    • 12

Bend the edge of the gasket around the bottom of the door and continue to push the gasket in along the bottom of the door. The gasket’s edges will not touch, a gap is normal.
