# How to Hook Up a Dishwasher That Is Not Next to the Sink
Ideally, you should install a new dishwasher as close to your sink as you can. If this isn't possible, though, you can buy extension pipes to supply your machine with the water it needs and dispose of its waste. Dishwasher extension pipes are relatively inexpensive and easy to fit. You should bear in mind that a longer extension inlet could affect the performance of your machine through decreased water pressure.

- Drill
- Sink trap with drainage outlet
- Jubilee clip (hose clamp)

Purchase a water inlet and dishwasher drain extension kit from your local hardware store or online. If you can't find a kit, you can buy each item separately.

Connect one end of your water inlet extension to the water supply near your sink and the other to the inlet valve on the back of your dishwasher. Make sure your connections are sound.

Connect one end of your drainage extension to the waste outlet of your machine, and the other to the trap or waste disposal system under your sink. Secure it in place with a jubilee clip.

Turn the water supply to your machine on, connect it to the power supply, and run a test cycle.
