How to Troubleshoot a Frigidaire Dishwasher With No Water Spray From the Top

The Frigidaire brand could very well be one of the exceptions to a few other basic dishwasher brands and models. The company includes as many as three spray arms -- lower, middle and upper -- that provide a thorough cleansing on your dishes. Furthermore, the company programs the arms to rotate in a way that conserves energy and saves you money. These "extras" could be the reason why you are experiencing no water from the top spray arm. You can first confirm that your dishwasher is rotating the arms to specifications, and then maintenance a part of the spray arm that is responsible for delivering water.

Instructions

  1. Monitor Spray Arm Rotation

    • 1

Allow the dishwasher to complete its full cycle if you only hear the rotation of the bottom arm through the door.

    • 2

Reclose the door and resume the interrupted cycle, if you see that dishes on the bottom are wetter than dishes in upper racks.

    • 3

Open the door to the dishwasher after the cycle is done. Some models have a "Clean" light that illuminates on the control panel when finished. Inspect the dishes for cleanliness, paying extra attention to the top rack. Some energy-efficient models feature the Precision Direct Wash System, with two to three spray arms that alternate on and off, instead of all working at the same time. This could be the reason why you presumed that the top arm was not spraying.

    Clean Clogged Spray Arm

    • 4

Cancel the dishwasher cycle if it is active. Open the door, being careful of hot water that could scald your skin. If there are dishes in the upper or middle racks, remove them. Pull out the racks so that you have easy access to the top spray arm. The following generalized instructions do not apply to all models.

    • 5

Hold the spray arm in place with one hand.

    • 6

Use your other hand to turn the retaining nut in a clockwise or rightward direction. Pull out the spray arm, exposing the shaft.

    • 7

Use a soft brush to clean the jet nozzles and bearings of old built-up food matter and debris.

    • 8

Replace the spraying arm. Restart your dishwashing cycle from the beginning to get the maximum cleaning effect from the top spray arm.
