How to Close a GE Dishwasher

Completing a few tasks prepares a General Electric (GE) dishwasher for its wash cycle. The tasks include putting automatic dishwasher detergent in the soap dispenser on the dishwasher's door and then latching the soap dispenser's door closed securely. Additionally, it is important to lock the dishwasher door closed. The door latch assembly has sensors that detect the door's position, and they prevent the dishwasher from operating when the door is open.

Push the dish racks fully into the dishwasher, ensuring they will not touch the door when it is closed.

    • 2

Fill the detergent cup with automatic dishwasher detergent. Filling the cup to the middle line is appropriate in most homes, but fill the cup to the top if your home has hard water.

    • 3

Close the detergent cup lid by flipping it over the dispenser and pressing down to lock it in place. If the lid is to the side of the detergent cup on your GE dishwasher model, then rotate the lid over the detergent cup until it locks into place.

Lift the dishwasher's door from its position parallel to the floor, and press the door firmly against the appliance's wash tub until your hear it click. The click indicates that you engaged the door latch.
