Where is a Drain Outlet Located on a Bosch Dishwasher?

Bosch manufactures a number of large appliances for your kitchen, including an automatic built-in dishwasher. The Bosch dishwasher ties into your existing electric supply, hot water supply and waste pipe system. After the wash and rinse cycles of the machine are complete, waste water exits the dishwasher through a drain outlet. Knowing the location of the drain outlet may assist you in troubleshooting potential dishwasher drainage problems.
  1. Drain Hose

    • The Bosch dishwasher drains through a flexible hose that connect to the waste pipes of your kitchen sink. The hose connects the drain pump in the dishwasher to a special fitting on the under-sink drainpipe. If you have a garbage disposal mounted under the sink, the drain hose from the dishwasher connects directly to a fitting on the disposal. Both the fittings on the drainpipe and the garbage disposal have knock-out plugs that must be removed prior to the dishwasher drain hose connection. The knock-out plugs can be removed with a flat blade screwdriver and a hammer. If the plugs are not removed, the dishwasher will not drain.

    Drain Outlet Location

    • The dishwasher drain hose connects to a pump within the dishwasher. The hose exits at the back of the dishwasher. A loop in the hose must be mounted from between 20 inches and 43 inches off the floor. This is to keep the wastewater from the dishwasher from backing up into the kitchen sink. To access the drain outlet where it exits the dishwasher, the machine must be slid from its mounting under the counter top.

    Electrical Connections

    • You must disconnect the power to the dishwasher before attempting to move it. Turn off the breaker in the main breaker box that controls the dishwasher electrical circuit. Next, the lower front panel on the front of the machine must be removed by twisting out the retaining screws on each side. Hold a no-touch electrical tester next to the wires behind the panel to ensure electrical current has been turned off.

    Drain Hose Access

    • Open the dishwasher door to expose the mounting brackets. These will be either on the top or the sides of the dishwasher, depending on what type of counter top you have. After removal of the brackets and retaining screws, you may be able to slide the dishwasher out far enough to access the drain outlet on the back of the machine. If the dishwasher will not slide out far enough to give you access to the back of the machine, you may need to disconnect the electrical connections, the hot water supply hose and the drain hose fitting under the sink.
