How to Repair the Rubber Stripping That Came Off the Door Gasket on a Dishwasher

The rubber gasket stripping that fits the door channel on a dishwasher helps prevent water leaks during the wash cycle. Since the stripping is made of rubber, it occasionally stretches due to heat. When the stripping stretches, it falls out of the channel. Repairing the gasket to fit back into place only takes a few minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the dishwasher door all the way until it lays flat.

    • 2

Pull the gasket out from the dishwasher’s interior door channel, and then inspect the gasket for rips or cracks. As long as the gasket does not have any cracks or rips, you can use it. If it has rips or cracks, you will need to purchase a new one. If the gasket is stretched, place it in cool water for a few minutes to help it shrink.

    • 3

Line the gasket back up, starting with the center, and lining it up under the door latch. Most gaskets will have a small white dot to help indicate where the center of the gasket is.

    • 4

Push the stripping down into the channel along the dishwasher.

    • 5

Close the dishwasher door, and allow the gasket to form a seal by leaving the door closed for a few hours.
