How to Add a Dishwasher to a Rental Property

Purchase a portable dishwasher model that has the features you want. Consider the capacity, ease of use and efficiency. Special features may include adjustable racks, a timer setting to delay the cycle, and rinse aid dispensers that may be particularly helpful for those who live in hard water areas.

Take off the end of your kitchen faucet by unscrewing it when you are ready to use the dishwasher. You may need to use a wrench or pliers the first time you take off the end. Remove the screen inside the end of the piece and place it in a safe place since you need to put it back on after using the dishwasher.

Place the dishwasher in front of the sink as closely as possible.

Pull the power cord from the back of the machine and plug it in. Pull out the water hose as well and connect it to the faucet where you just removed the end. Follow your specific manufacturer's directions to make certain the hose is securely fastened to the faucet.

Turn on the hot water from the tap. Turn it on slowly in case the hose is not securely fastened. If it is loose, water will spray everywhere if there is much pressure.

Fill the dishwasher with dishes, detergent and rinse aid as needed and according to the manufacturer's instructions. Close the door, choose the appropriate cycle and push the start button to begin the wash.

Turn off the water, unplug the dishwasher and take the water hose off the faucet when the cycle is complete. Put the cords in the open place in the back of the dishwasher for ease of movement and roll the dishwasher to an area for storage.

Put the screen back in the faucet end and screw the end back on the faucet.
