How to Fix a Seal on a GE Profile Dishwasher

The seal on your GE Profile dishwasher is an important component, as it prevents the water from the tub area from leaking out of the tub and onto the floor during a wash cycle. The seal, or gasket, is made of rubber, and installed in a channel that surrounds the dishwasher door. When the door is closed, it compresses against the gasket, forming a barrier impenetrable by water. However, as the seal begins to age, it may crack or rot, at which point water may escape from the dishwasher. To restore the dishwasher's water barrier, remove the old seal and install a new one.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the new gasket in a bucket full of hot water before beginning the repair. The water helps to soften the gasket, making it easier for you to install it in the dishwasher door.

    • 2

Open the dishwasher door, and then locate the end of the installed gasket, at the bottom of the door.

    • 3

Grasp the end of the gasket, and then pull it away from the tub. Continue pulling until the entire gasket is removed.

    • 4

Locate the center of the new gasket, which is often marked with a colored dot.

    • 5

Align the center of the new gasket with the door latch, which is installed at the top of the center of the dishwasher door.

    • 6

Press the center of the gasket into the gasket channel with your fingers. Move around one side of the tub area, pressing the gasket into the channel until the gasket is installed. Repeat this process on the other side of the channel, until the gasket is fully installed.

    • 7

Close and latch the dishwasher door. Allow the door to remain closed for several hours, which molds the gasket to the gasket channel.
