Unplug the dishwasher. Turn off the circuit breaker that supplies power to the dishwasher. Remove the bottom dish rack.
Remove the spray arm on the lower level of the dishwasher. Use a screwdriver if any screws connect the spray arm. Gently move the spray arm back and forth toward each side while pulling in an upward motion if no screws are attached. Take off the screen beneath the spray arm.
Take a set of pliers and remove the bolts on the pump's exterior. Pull the pump from the dishwasher and place it on a level surface. Remove the bolts from the upper impeller on the pump.
Take a bucket and fill it with water. Mix the water with a few drops of dishwashing detergent. Remove the upper impeller, place it in the detergent mixture and allow it to soak. Place the remaining pump parts into the water, one at a time. Discard all washers and O-rings and replace them with new ones.
Soak for several minutes or until all dirt and debris are gone. Rinse each part in warm water and examine it for damage. Replace any parts that are worn or broken. Re-assemble the pump and return it to the dishwasher.
Return the spray arm and lower rack to the dishwasher. Plug the appliance into the outlet. Flip the circuit breaker to restore power to the dishwasher.
