How to Fix the Circuit Board on a Magic Chef Dishwasher

The circuit board on your Magic Chef dishwasher controls all of the dishwasher's functions. Magic Chef dishwashers are manufactured by Whirlpool, and like Whirlpool models, the circuit board is located in the control panel on the top of the dishwasher door. To replace the circuit board, you must first gain access to the interior of the control panel, which is secured using several screws. Before disassembling your dishwasher, ensure that the power is disconnected to the appliance.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the dishwasher breaker in your home's service panel. Most dishwashers are hard-wired to your home's electrical system and cannot be unplugged.

    • 2

Open the dishwasher door and remove the screws on the top of the inner door panel, securing the control panel to the dishwasher door.

    • 3

Close the dishwasher door but do not latch it.

    • 4

Rotate the control panel down to reveal the interior components.

    • 5

Depress the tabs securing the control board cover and then remove the cover. Depending on the model of your Magic Chef dishwasher, there may be a tab located on the bottom of the control panel, which must be depressed using a flat-head screwdriver.

    • 6

Pry the tabs securing the thermal fuse to the side of the circuit board housing and then remove the thermal fuse. It may be necessary to use a flat-head screwdriver to pry the tabs.

    • 7

Depress the tabs on the sides of the control panel ribbon connector and then depress the tabs securing the circuit board to the control panel housing. On some models, screws may be used in lieu of tabs to secure the board to the housing. Remove the screws if this is applicable to your model.

    • 8

Snap the new circuit board into the control panel or place it into the panel and secure it using the screws.

    • 9

Connect the control panel ribbon connector to the new circuit board, ensuring that it snaps into place.

    • 10

Remove each wire connector from the old circuit board and connect it to the corresponding terminal on the new circuit board. Transfer the wires one at a time to ensure that they are installed on the proper terminals.

    • 11

Snap the thermal fuse onto the side of the circuit board housing.

    • 12

Reinstall the circuit board cover and then reinstall the control panel, using the screws that you removed to secure it into position.

    • 13

Close the dishwasher door and restore the appliance's power supply.
