How to Replace a Bosch SHU4312 Flow Switch

Bosch is a German manufacturer that has been in business since 1886. The first building associated with company founder Robert Bosch was a workshop that focused on "precision mechanics and electrical engineering." It was not until 1952 that Bosch refocused its enterprise on kitchen appliances. A Bosch dishwasher may have a distinctive styling, but the internal design is similar to other models. The flow, or float, switch controls the water level in the unit. When this component fails, the dishwasher may overflow or not fill with water at all.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the power going to the dishwasher by unplugging the appliance from the wall outlet or turning off the circuit at the breaker box.

    • 2

Open the door on the dishwasher and locate the screws on the bottom edge of the tub, near the door. Undo the screws, close the door and then pull off the kick plate, the outside panel under the door.

    • 3

Locate the float switch on one side of the dishwasher behind where the kick plate was. Take note of how the wires sit on the switch, so you can reattach them to the new part. Remove the two wires and connectors from the float switch with needle-nose pliers.

    • 4

Unscrew the switch from the side of the dishwasher and insert the replacement. Attach the wires to the new switch and reattach the kick plate. Turn the power back on and let the Bosch dishwasher run through one cycle to make sure the tub fills with water properly.
