How to Fix a Crack in a Dishwasher

Dishwashers are convenient appliances that are generally durable and last for years when properly maintained. However, most dishwasher components are made from plastic and the dishwasher does crack if it gets hit hard enough or wears down from age. Fortunately, repairing the cracks allows you to continue using the dishwasher for an extended time after the initial damage occurred. Fixing a crack in the dishwasher requires a few basic supplies to ensure the repair lasts.

Instructions

    • 1

Wash the area around the crack with warm water, a soft sponge and several drops of dish soap. The crack should be clean so the repair bonds to it properly.

    • 2

Sand down the crack in the dishwasher with medium-grade sandpaper to smooth out the area.

    • 3

Cut a piece of fiberglass cloth so it fits directly over the crack.

    • 4

Fill the crack by applying an epoxy filler with a thin brush into the damaged area. Wipe away any excess filler with a rag.

    • 5

Place the fiberglass cloth over the crack and place more epoxy over it until it is covered. Allow the repair to fully dry.

    • 6

Smooth the repair using fine sandpaper so it matches the surrounding surface.

    • 7

Paint the repair with a small brush and matching latex acrylic paint if it is on the outside of the dishwasher and you want to hide it.
