How to Repair the Water Filter on a Bosch Dishwasher

Bosch is a German manufacturer of large appliances for the home. The Bosch automatic built-in dishwasher makes for faster after-meal cleanups by doing the heavy work of washing pots, pans, dishes and utensils for you. Although heavily crusted baking dishes are no problem for a Bosch dishwasher, a filtering system is in place to protect the pump from large foreign objects contained in the rinse water.
  1. Filter Problems

    • Problems with the filtering system on your Bosch dishwasher may lead you to think that you may have more serious problems. If your dishwasher is not draining properly, this could point to a filter that is clogged with large particles of food or other foreign objects. If you open the door of your Bosch dishwasher after the rinse cycle has completed and there is standing water in the bottom of the machine, the filtering system may be the culprit.

    Removal Filter Assembly

    • The filter assembly on your Bosch dishwasher is located on the bottom of the inside of the machine under the bottom spray wand. The spray wand needs to be removed by lifting it straight off the filter assembly. The filter assembly itself is removed by twisting the top in a counterclockwise direction and lifting it straight up and out of the bottom of the dishwasher.

    Cleaning the Filter

    • The filter assembly consists of three pieces. The outer section is coarse and filters out the largest particles. The center section -- or the flat line filter -- is inserted into the coarse filter. The micro filter is inserted into the flat-line filter. The three pieces can be cleaned by sliding them apart and washing them in a clear stream of running water.

    Replace Filter

    • Replacement filters are available from Bosch for your dishwasher, but chances are your present filter will be reusable after a cleaning. Once the micro filter, flat line filter and the outer coarse filter are assembled, the filter system can be placed back into the mounting hole in the bottom of the inside of the dishwasher. The top of the filter assembly has an arrow embossed into it that must line up with the arrow on the bottom of the dishwasher. The bottom spray wand can then be inserted.
