How to Replace Pump Seals on the Whirlpool DU930 Dishwasher

The electrical components of a dishwasher sit in a precarious position; directly under the tub. This means when your dishwasher fills with water during a cycle, the circuitry is at risk of getting wet. The part that prevents this from happening is the pump, or main tub, seal. This is a gasket the keeps water from leaking below tub level. The internal design of dishwashers is similar regardless of the external style or features. Replacing the pump seal on the Whirlpool DU930 model is going to be the same as it is on any other brand.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the dishwasher from the wall outlet or turn off the power at the breaker. Once the power is off, open the door of the appliance and pull out the racks.

    • 2

Pry off the cap that sits on top of the washer arm, the piece that squirts water around when the dishwasher is running. Once the cap is off, use a wrench to remove the bolt holding the arm in place. Pull up on the arm to take it out of the machine.

    • 3

Remove the screws sitting around the impeller. The impeller is a set of blades that sit under the washer arm. With the screws out, pull up on the blades to take out the impeller. This gives you access to the seal.

    • 4

Slide a screwdriver between the rubber gasket and the tub and pry the piece off.

    • 5

Set the replacement seal over the hole in the tub and press down on the edges to secure it. Reassemble the dishwasher by screwing the impeller and washer arm back in place.
