Door Seals

• Although they are called door seals or gaskets, these thin strips of rubber actually surround the main body or bin of the dishwasher. This area is called the tank channel. When the dishwasher's door is closed, it presses tightly against the seal, creating a watertight barrier. To remove a damaged or broken seal, simply pull it out.

Replacing Door Seals

• Choose a seal or gasket designed for your Maytag dishwasher's specific model number. This will ensure it is the right thickness and length. Soak the seal in hot water until it becomes soft and flexible. Then press it tightly into the tank channel. To ensure an even fit, hold the seal in the middle so the ends dangling on either side are equal in length, then press the middle part of the seal into the top of the tank channel, right below the door handle. Once you've seated the seal all the way around, close and lock the dishwasher door, and leave it closed for several hours. This allows the seal to mold tightly to the door's fit.

Main Tub Seal

• Maytag dishwasher motors are located underneath the bottom of the wash bin. The motor runs a pump, which forces water up and out the spraying arms. The drain is in the same area. The main tub seal surrounds the shaft of the motor, preventing draining water from leaking out near the shaft and onto the floor underneath the dishwasher.

Replacing Main Tub Seals

• Choose a seal that is made for your model. To install it, roll out the lower rack and set it aside. Then unscrew the lower spray arm and its support structure, and set it aside. You will now see a small, round plastic unit that is called the drain impeller. Underneath this impeller is a rubber circle. This is the seal. It sits between the impeller and the motor, and the shaft of the motor goes through it and up into the drain impeller and arm support. Pull it up and replace it with a new seal -- no adhesive necessary.
