Dishwasher Is Stuck on Delayed Washing

Sometimes dishwashers are a little too smart for a consumer’s good. Over time or with user error, a dishwasher may become confused with various commands and remain stuck on a certain command. The key to undoing this problem is understanding how the dishwasher operates.
  1. Command Panel

    • The command panel on a dishwasher is similar to any other basic electronic device. Simple codes can be entered and are stored on the memory and sent to the dishwasher’s timer. The timer then organizes the commands and starts the necessary cycles to complete the commanded wash.

    Water Heating

    • One problem that can cause the dishwasher to appear it is taking longer is cold or lukewarm water. Many modern dishwashers require that the water be heated to at least 120 degrees Fahrenheit in order to start the wash cycle. If the water is any colder, than it will manually heat the water before the cycle starts. This can make it seem like the dishwasher is on a delayed wash.

    Wrong Code

    • Another common reason for a dishwasher to seem as though it is stuck on a particular cycle is that either you are entering the wrong command code or you have not entered the right access code. Some smart dishwashers will not allow the cycle to be changed or altered without an access code as a childproofing measure. So, the next time you start your dishwasher, grab the owner’s manual and verify that you are entering the right code.

    Dishwasher Error

    • Dishwashers can sometimes fail to execute the correct commands. When this happens, your response will need to be the same as what you do with any electronic device that is frozen. In order to restart a dishwasher, you must manually unplug it. In order to make certain that you completely shut it down, you’ll want to keep it unplugged for about 10 minutes. Depending on how it is installed, this may involve pulling it out. Next, plug the dishwasher back in and it should be back to normal.
