Frigidaire Dishwasher Has a Leak in the Top Right

One way to describe the cleaning action in Frigidaire dishwashers is that it's a "hurricane" of water and detergent whipping around inside the appliance. The rubber gasket that seals the door frame on the dishwasher is the main component that keeps this whirlwind from shooting dirty, soapy water out of the dishwasher. Usually this seal is watertight. However, there are various conditions that might allow the door of the dishwasher to open, allowing for leaks.
  1. Detergent

    • The chemicals in automatic dishwasher detergent are designed to break down food and debris on dishes. The mixture of hot water and detergent at the bottom of the tub gets whipped up as it goes through the bottom and top spray arms. However, there shouldn't be excess bubbles and suds. If you pour too much detergent into the bottom of the tub after filling the dispenser, the dishwasher might create too much sudsy water and cause leaks, including in the top right corner of the door. Be sure that you fill the detergent dispenser only to the premeasured level in the door. Instead of adding extra detergent for extremely dirty dishes, select a longer cycle, such as "Heavy Wash."

    Dispenser

    • The detergent dispenser door automatically swings open as the dishwasher engages the washing phase of the cycle. This dispenser door is usually positioned at the top of the dishwasher's door, near the upper dish rack. If a cup or utensil slips out of or through the rack, it can block the dispenser from swinging open. The movement of the dispenser door will be restricted, potentially exerting a pushing force or pressure on the dishwasher's door, creating an opening for leaks at the top, including the right side. Make sure that you place your dishes in the racks properly so that handles on pots and coffee mugs are not blocking the dispenser.

    Rinse Aid

    • Your home may have hard water, which can leave spots on your dishes after the cleaning cycle is complete. These spots are the result of minerals in the water. Frigidaire recommends that you use a rinse aid to supplement the cleaning power and effectiveness of the detergent. However, just as with the detergent, if you use more than the recommended amount of rinse aid, the whipping action of the spray arms might create excess foam that pushes against the door. A slightly ajar door doesn't have a watertight gasket seal, and steam and spraying water can escape the top, including the right side of the door.

    Level

    • Some Frigidaire dishwashers are supported by four legs, called levelers, that look and function like screws. You can adjust the height of your dishwasher at all four corners by loosening and turning the levelers. A professional appliance technician probably installed the dishwasher in your home and leveled it properly. However, if something has altered your kitchen floor, the dishwasher can become unsteady, causing the door to open and leak during a cycle. If the dishwasher is tilting to the right, you might experience a leak in the top-right area of the door. Consult your owner's manual for instructions on how to adjust the levelers.
