How to Install a Dishwasher Into Existing Sink Pipes

Installing a dishwasher on your own can be an intimidating proposal, especially if you don't know much about how these appliances connect to your home's infrastructure. Besides wiring the dishwasher for power, you'll have to attach the dishwasher to the water supply and sink pipes. Even if you don't know much about plumbing connections you'll find you can complete the procedure in a matter of minutes even if you've never done such a job before.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the dishwasher water pipe, located under the sink. Turn the valve on the pipe clockwise to ensure it is shut off.

    • 2

Slide the dishwasher into the opening between your kitchen cabinets. Be sure to run the water pipe and drain tubing through the grooves under the dishwasher. Bring the water pipe and drain tubing to the front of the unit as you slide the dishwasher into the space.

    • 3

Attach the copper water pipe to the water pipe input on the bottom of the front of the dishwasher.

    • 4

Tighten the water pipe coupling to the input using your wrench.

    • 5

Attach the plastic drain tube to the drain input on the front of the dishwasher. There will likely be a metal clamp at the end of the drain tube, which is clamped to the area where the tube meets the input.

    • 6

Install the mounting screws on the brackets on the corners of the dishwasher using a regular or electric screwdriver. This will secure the dishwasher to the cabinets.
