How to Install a Dish Drawer

Dish drawers are a type of dishwasher that has a different installation process to the more traditional front-loaded dishwasher. Dish drawers are not installed under a countertop, but rather within a cabinet. This makes dish drawers more suitable for smaller spaces and older homes. Dish drawers and dishwashers both require connections to water and electricity.

Instructions

  1. Site Preparation

    • 1

Measure the height and width of the cabinets around where the dish drawer will be located. The dimensions of the cabinetry determine the allowable drawer size.

    • 2

Connect a tee-junction and shut-off valve to the hot water line. The tee-junction allows the hose connection from the dishwasher to the hot water. Install a waste tee-junction to the sink drain. This tee allows the dishwasher to use the same drain pipe as the sink.

    • 3

Install a 110-volt ground fault interrupter (GFI) electric outlet under the sink. Use a location that avoids contact with water. Run wiring from the breaker box to the outlet.

    Appliance Preparation

    • 4

Cut a 1 ½-inch hole for the water lines and electrical wiring in the cabinet for the dish drawer using a hole saw. Cut another hole the same size through the under-sink cabinet corresponding to the first hole.

    • 5

Locate the holes in the side corners of the dishwasher. Slide the tabs on the end of the included side-mount brackets into the holes. This mounts the brackets onto the dishwasher. Screw the included screws through the brackets into the holes with a screwdriver.

    • 6

Unroll the moisture barrier sheet included with the dishwasher. Lay the sheet with the plastic side facing up. Peel off the plastic cover on this side. Apply the sheet to the underside of the cabinet where the dishwasher is going. Place the adhesive side against the cabinet underside. Press the sheet against the surface to form a seal.

    Installation

    • 7

Position the dish drawer in front of the opening where it fits into the cabinets. Face the appliance in the correct position. Route the water and drainage hoses as well as the electrical cords through the holes in the cabinetry.

    • 8

Lift the appliance into the cabinet opening. Have a helper pull the hoses and cords through the hole to avoid kinks or snags. Push the appliance completely into the opening.

    • 9

Open the drawer of the appliance half way. Remove the plugs found at each front corner with a flathead screwdriver. Set the plugs aside. Screw in the supplied screws into the brackets made visible from the removal of the plugs. These screws attach the dish drawer to the cabinetry. Replace the plugs into their positions to cover the brackets.

    • 10

Secure the drain line to the tee leading to the kitchen drain pipe. Use the included joining tool to connect them. Screw the water supply line onto the shut-off valve. Turn on the water to check for leaks. Tighten loose connections with channel locks.

    • 11

Close the drawer. Plug in the cord to the electrical outlet.
