If the home’s power goes out temporarily, the dishwasher’s button can become stuck in one position. If your residence uses a breaker box, the dishwasher’s breaker may have been tripped; for homes with fuse boxes, a fuse may have blown. These power interruptions will cause the dishwasher to react erratically, including jamming of the appliance’s power button. Unplug the dishwasher for at least five minutes and also reset the tripped breaker or replace the blown fuse to clear any power glitches to the appliance.
A wiring issue can also result in the dishwasher power button’s failure to respond. Over time and with continued use, the wires to the control panel can become disconnected, burned out or otherwise faulty, causing the dishwasher’s button to be unresponsive. Examine all wiring to ensure that it is tightly secured and in good condition. Any defective wiring should be replaced.
It is also possible the dishwasher’s button itself is defective. Routine wear and tear can cause the appliance’s power button to wear out, and if this happens, depressing the power button will not produce any effect. Haier dishwasher replacement buttons can be purchased at appliance repair parts stores for less than $2, at the time of publication.
Because the power button is located on the dishwasher’s control panel, it is possible that the control panel may be defective, or the dishwasher’s door may be faulty. Habitually opening and closing the door – particularly if this is done briskly or roughly – can dislodge the button. Haier recommends turning off the water supply and disconnecting the dishwasher from its power source before you attempt to troubleshoot it.
