Turn off the circuit breaker in your home electrical panel that powers dishwasher.
Open the door halfway, and close it slowly. Watch where the latch meets the strike plate. Sometimes the latch plate gets pushed toward the rear of the dishwasher accidentally and requires some adjustment.
Open the dishwasher door fully and look for a small screw on the top of the strike plate. This screw is barely accessible with a small screwdriver.
Loosen the screw with a small Phillips screwdriver. Pull the strike plate toward the front of the dishwasher and tighten the securing screw.
Remove the screws on the inside perimeter of the door if the strike plate is not causing the latch problem. Hold the outer door panel down, and slowly allow the inner door panel to swing back to a closed position. Guide the inner panel with your hand and do not allow it to slam shut as that could cause damage to the door.
Check the screws securing the closing latch to the inside of the outer door panel. Sometimes, loose screws will cause the door not to close securely. Tighten the screws with the screwdriver.
Hold the outer door panel with one hand and bring down the inner door panel with your free hand. Secure the inner door panel to the outer panel with the retaining screws. Turn the circuit breaker back on to power the dishwasher.
