Components of a Whirlpool Dishwasher

Dishwashers have basic components and features that are found across most brands, including Whirlpool appliances. All Whirlpool dishwashers have upper and lower racks, along with detergent and rinse aid dispensers. There is also some type of control panel that allows for the choosing of various wash cycles. If you don't find these fundamental components in any brand and model of dishwasher, then it may not be worth your consideration. Whirlpool organizes their dishwashers on their product-listing Web page in three typical categories, which are based on the components included. There are also other components that aren't always given much thought.
  1. Integrated Console

    • Integrated Whirlpool dishwashers have control panels that are hidden away while the door is closed. After you open the door, the push button controls can be seen at the top of the door's frame. Hiding the controls this way helps give the dishwasher a cohesive look. This type of Whirlpool dishwasher also features a sensor cycle technology that adjusts to the cleanliness of dishes, a PowerScour with 40 targeted jets, an EZ-2 Lift adjustable upper rack and a Quiet Partner IV sound-reducing package.

    Traditional Console

    • Traditional models have the lighted push button control panels on the outside of the door. Many of these Whirlpool dishwashers have standard-sized tubs, but they feature DuraWash systems that spray three levels of wash water through powerful jets reaching the upper and lower racks. Consumers benefit from traditional models because most are Energy Star-rated for energy efficiency, which leads to lower utility bills. You can even choose the rinse-only cycle or no-heat-dry option to cut out the waste of unnecessarily using full wash cycles. These models feature few frills, but the retail price can be ideal for the budget-conscious shopper.

    Portable

    • Whirlpool's line of portable dishwashers feature wheels or casters that let you place the appliance wherever there is a water faucet, drain and power outlet. This type of dishwasher has an internal tub and rack size that is on par with traditional types, and in some cases a few inches taller. Portables feature a SheerClean wash system that funnels water up and out the back of the appliance, offering cleaning from many angles. Similar to integrated models, portables feature the Quiet Partner I sound-reducing package, so wherever you move the dishwasher, its operation won't be a disturbance.

    Accessories

    • You could consider accessories like dishwashing detergent and rinse aid as integral components of your Whirlpool dishwasher's operation. These products don't ship with the appliance, but you nonetheless need them to get the best washing experience. Also remember that the filters and pumps inside the dishwasher need periodic maintenance. You can purchase a dishwasher "cleaner" that helps you service the machine and avoid costly breakdowns and repairs. Replacement drain hoses, racks or baskets are also easily available.
