Bosch Millennium Series Dishwasher Does Not Fill

Automated dishwashers make after-dinner clean up convenient, but when something goes awry with the washer – in this case, the basin isn’t filling – frustrations can mount. A basin that doesn’t fill leaves dishes and glassware dirty, with food particles left behind that accumulate bacteria. For the home and property owner, understanding the exact cause of the problem is paramount to solving it.
  1. Water Supply

    • Simply put, the washer isn’t filling to capacity (or at all) due to a malfunction in the washer’s water supply line or an issue is causing the washer to drain before a wash cycle can commence. The easiest approach to checking out the situation is to take a quick look-see under the sink to the hot water line that leads into the washer. If the stop-valve has been errantly closed off, such as when you installed the washer recently or you performed plumbing repairs, open the valve counterclockwise to allow water to flow. If this isn’t the issue, move on.

    The Float

    • Regardless of make or model, every automated dishwasher contains a float mechanism. With the door of the washer open, you should be able to see a small conical or dome-shaped device near the bottom center of the basin. This is the float mechanism, and when you manually move it up and down it produces an audible click because it’s spring-loaded. Chances are there’s an obstruction keeping the spring sprung, so flush out the tube by first removing it via the connector located just below the access panel. Once you’ve reinstalled it, the mechanism it should click again.

    Screen

    • Food debris can build up over time and prevent an even flow of water to and from the washer. After closing the hot water valve by turning it clockwise, find the washer’s intake valve, generally located behind the front panel. For the exact location, consult the diagram inside your washer’s manual. You’ll need a Phillips screwdriver to dismantle the screen cover; once it’s off, scrap away any food sediment and see if that remedies your problem.

    Call a Pro

    • If none of the above alleviate the situation, something’s amiss with the washer’s internal electronic parts. In this situation, its best to call a licensed repairperson or consult the washer’s manual for warranty or repair information. In some cases, the manufacturer may have hotline information to help you troubleshoot additional issues.
