How to Change the Spring Draw Bar on a Whirlpool Dishwasher

If you notice that the drawbar part inside your Whirlpool dishwasher keeps coming open, then you may need to remove the spring attached to the part and replace it with a new one. The spring drawbar is small spring part attached to the drawbar part that is located with the inner panel of the dishwasher door. You may order a new spring for the drawbar from a Whirlpool manufacturer or purchase it from an online retailer.

  Cut the power to your Whirlpool dishwasher by shutting it off from your kitchen circuit breaker.

  Unhook the ends of the door springs from spring tension adjustment holes and open the dishwasher door.

  Remove the eight T-15 Torx screws from the inner panel of the door frame using a Torx driver.

  Lift up and remove the entire inner panel from the dishwasher door and locate the drawbar spring below the drip cover of the front panel.

  Pull down on the drawbar spring the lift up on the spring to unhook it from the drawbar.

  Attach the new drawbar spring by hooking it into place. Place the inner panel back on and reinsert the Torx screws.

  Close the dishwasher door and reattach the door springs. Turn the electrical power back on from the kitchen circuit breaker.
