How to Hook Up a GE Nautilus

The GE Nautilus dishwasher is a built-in dishwasher designed to clean dishes and silverware as well as drain water used in the cycle. Installing the GE Nautilus dishwasher is similar to installing other types of dishwashers. You will need to have an opening to fit the dishwasher, at least 24 inches, and connect the water tubing and electrical wires. Once installed, you can use the dishwasher to keep your dishes clean.

Instructions

    • 1

Ensure that the opening of the area where you will install the GE Nautilus dishwasher is at least 24 inches wide. If it isn't, cut any areas around the opening with a jigsaw to ensure that it is.

    • 2

Turn off the hot water supply to the kitchen sink and turn off the electrical power to the kitchen from the circuit breaker box.

    • 3

Use a pipe wrench to disconnect the trap from the sink drain and the tailpiece. Replace it with the branch tailpiece and connect the trap to the branch tailpiece with the pipe wrench.

    • 4

Drill a hole into the cabinet with a drill and hole saw that will be large enough to fit the hot water supply hose or copper tubing and dishwasher drain through it.

    • 5

Place the hot water tube or copper tubing through the hole you cut in Step 4 and place a compression nut and ferrule on the tubing. Ensure the copper tubing runs straight. If it is bent, water may not flow through properly.

    • 6

Attach the copper tubing to the hot water supply and secure the connection with a wrench. Place the copper tubing at the bottom of the dishwasher installation location and tape it down.

    • 7

Connect the dishwasher electrical wires to the kitchen circuit. The red wire is "hot;" the white wire is neutral; and the ground wire is green. Twist wire nuts onto the wire splices and tape down the electrical wire so it doesn't move around when you place the dishwasher between the cabinets.

    • 8

Push the GE Nautilus dishwasher into the dishwasher opening and slide the dishwasher hose into the hole you cut in Step 4. Push the dishwasher all of the way toward the back of the opening.

    • 9

Attach the dishwasher drain hose to the branch tailpiece by opening the tailpiece clamp with pliers and then connecting the drain hose to it. Remove the pliers to let the clamp lock the hose into place.

    • 10

Connect the electrical wire to through the wire clamp. Remove the electrical wire insulation with wire strippers and connect them to the matching colored dishwasher wires. Place wire nuts on the splices.

    • 11

Attach the ground wire to the frame of the dishwasher with a Phillips screwdriver. Place the wires in the wire box and close it. Tighten the wire box's screw with the Phillips screwdriver.

    • 12

Cut the copper tubing to the length you need and wrap the threads of the 3/8- to 1/2-inch brass elbow. Connect the elbow to the dishwasher at the water inlet location.

    • 13

Tighten it with a wrench and place a compression nut and ferrule at the end of the tubing. Connect the tubing to the elbow at the water inlet and ensure its connection is not bent or it may stop the water flow.

    • 14

Tie pipe strapping around the dishwasher drain and copper tubing to get it out of the way. Turn the hot water supply back on and check for any leaks. Turn the power on to the kitchen circuit through the breaker.

    • 15

Turn the GE Nautilus dishwasher in for a test cycle. Tighten any nuts or connections if you find leaks.
