How to Cancel a GE Dishwasher Cycle

Stopping the Cycle

• Understanding the difference between stopping the cycle and canceling the cycle on a GE dishwasher can be important. If you wish to simply pause the cycle to add a dish, open the dishwasher door slightly and wait for a few seconds. Wait for the water spray to stop, then lower the dishwasher door to open it. Add the desired dish and close the dishwasher. Do not press any buttons, and the dishwasher cycle will continue.

Start/Reset Button

• Completely canceling the cycle on a GE dishwasher depends on the dishwasher model. On models with a “Start/Reset” key pad, press “Start/Reset” twice. This will stop the current cycle and cancel the cycle entirely. Note that the dishes might not be completely clean or the detergent dissolved from the detergent dispenser, depending on the cycle stage when the cycle is stopped.

Cancel/Reset Button

• Other GE dishwasher models have a “Cancel/Reset” button. Press the button one time while the dishwasher is operating to cancel the cycle. Press the button one more time if you wish to entirely reset the dishwasher. If you press “Cancel/Reset” once and then press “Start," the dishwasher will resume the current cycle.

Rotary Dial

• Some older GE dishwashers have a rotary control knob. To cancel the cycle on these dishwashers, open the dishwasher door to stop the cycle. Wait for the water to stop spraying, then close the door again. Slowly rotate the knob clockwise to “Off” to cancel the current cycle.
