How to Install a Rubber Gasket on a Kenmore Elite Washer

Your dishwasher takes most of the labor out of washing the dishes, but it occasionally requires maintenance. When you start to see water forming at the bottom of your Kenmore Elite dishwasher, it's probably time to change the rubber gasket on the dishwasher door. When the dishwasher is in progress, the spray arm discharges water all over the inside of the dishwasher. When the door seal is broken, water leaks out. Changing this rubber gasket will stop the leak.

Things You'll Need

  • Screwdriver/putty knife
  • New rubber gasket
  • Dish soap

Instructions

    • 1

Open the door to your Kenmore Elite dishwasher and pull the dish rack out of the unit.

    • 2

Use a flathead screwdriver or a putty knife to pry up the metal tabs holding the rubber gasket to the door. Pull the old rubber gasket out of the groove around the door.

    • 3

Fill your sink with hot water and pour about a tablespoon of dish soap into the water. Allow your new rubber gasket to sit in the solution for about an hour. This will loosen the gasket and make it easier to install.

    • 4

Use the flathead screwdriver or the putty knife to press the rubber gasket into the door's groove on the left-hand side of the door. Work your way across the door until you have worked the seal all the way around to the right side of the door.

Replace the metal tabs to secure the gasket to the dishwasher's door.
