What Causes Ceiling Fans to Vibrate?

A ceiling fan that is installed properly can provide you with a quiet, cool breeze. Fans are less expensive than an air conditioner and can cool your room by moving the air. Sometimes, however, it's necessary to fix excessive vibration.
  1. Causes

    • Unbalanced or warped blades can cause a ceiling fan to vibrate. Blades located too close to a wall or the ceiling can cause the blades to wobble. Blades out of the track, a manufacturing problem, can cause the fan to wobble.

    Solution

    • Weights can be added to an unbalanced blade to prevent wobble. Remove the blades and lay them on a flat surface. It they are warped, they will not lay flat.

    Considerations

    • A fan that is not secured properly to the ceiling will wobble. Follow the installation procedures to ensure the fan is properly installed.
