How to Stop New Ceiling Fan Noises

Let the fan run for 72 hours. Many new fans initially make a humming noise. It is possible the fan simply needs to run for awhile. With such use, the sound might go away.

Check for an electrical problem. A dimmer switch can cause a fan to make a buzzing noise. The majority of ceiling fans are not made to work with a dimmer switch. Install the proper electric switch to stop the buzzing noise.

Check the blade sets. The Ceiling Fans website says fans have a matched sets of blades, with each having a gram difference. These blades could have been accidentally arranged the wrong way when the fan was installed. Remove the blades and weigh each one with a gram scale. Divide the blades so they have alternating weights.

Tighten any loose screws that may have come loose when the fan was in transit or being installed.

Balance the blades using a fan balancing kit. A balancing kit has a weighted material that clips on each blade. Follow the directions on the kit to balance the blades.

Take the ceiling fan back to where you bought it and exchange it for another one. You might have purchased a malfunctioning ceiling fan.
