How to Repair Overhead Fan Pull Chains

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the power to the ceiling fan at the circuit breaker box.

    • 2

Remove the housing of the pull switch by unscrewing the attaching screws with a screwdriver. The pull switch is attached to the housing by a thumb screw. Remove it from the housing by unscrewing it with your fingers.

    • 3

Label each wire and terminal on the pull switch before removing them. This will ensure that the new pull switch is wired properly. After labeling the wires, disconnect them from the switch by pulling the leads off of the terminals.

    • 4

Connect the wires to the new pull switch by pushing the leads onto the terminals.

    • 5

Reattach the pull switch to the housing by reattaching the thumb screw; tighten it by hand.

    • 6

Replace the housing cover with the attaching screws.

    • 7

Power the ceiling fan by turning the circuit breaker back on.
