How to Make Homemade Fan Pulls

Make your own decorative fan pull to extend broken or plain bead chain pulls. You can find replacement bead chain by the inch at a hardware store as well as the hardware attachments needed to make a fan pull. Finish off your fan pull chain with a large necklace pendant---the ideal accessory to create a fan pull to match your style, decor and personal flair.

Wire cutters
12-inch bead chain
Bead chain connector
End ring bead chain connector with loop
1/2-inch jump ring
Large necklace pendant

Instructions

  Use wire cutters to cut a 1-inch portion of bead chain from the existing pull, cutting between the beads. Take the portion to a hardware store. Buy a 12-inch bead chain in the same diameter as your existing pull. Buy attachments to match the bead chain diameter: one bead chain connector and one end ring connector with loop.

  Use the bead chain connector to attach the new chain to the existing chain. Clip the connector onto the last bead of the existing chain and first bead of the new chain.

  Cut the bead chain pull to the desired length. Cut between the beads.

  Clip the end ring connector with loop to the last bead in the chain pull. Attach a 1/2-inch jump ring (available in jewelry craft departments) to the loop in the end ring connector. Attach a large necklace pendant to the jump ring to finish the fan pull.
